Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Roblox lawsuit about?

Families allege that adults used Roblox to find, contact and groom children, and then moved them to other apps such as Discord, Snapchat or Instagram where the children were sexually exploited or assaulted. The lawsuits allege the companies misrepresented their safety and failed to adopt effective age verification and parental controls. The companies dispute the allegations. Federal cases are coordinated in MDL-3166 before Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco.

How many Roblox cases are pending?

The JPML reported 180 pending actions in MDL-3166 on October 1, 2026, compared with 182 on September 1 and 177 on August 3. Cases filed in state courts are not included in that count.

Who is being sued besides Roblox?

Depending on the case, Discord, Snap (Snapchat) and Meta (Instagram) are also named, because many cases allege that contact began on Roblox and moved to those apps.

Has Roblox settled?

No settlement had been announced in records reviewed October 17, 2026. In April 2026 the court said it intends to appoint Thomas J. Perrelli as a settlement master to mediate discussions. That is a step toward talks, not a settlement.

Do Roblox claims have to go to arbitration?

That is the first big question the court is deciding. Roblox and Discord have moved to compel arbitration in bellwether cases. The JPML order also notes a question about whether the federal Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act applies. No ruling appears in the public record reviewed.

Is this the same as the Roblox addiction or social media lawsuits?

No. MDL-3166 is about predators contacting children through the platform. Claims that apps are addictive by design are a different set of cases, such as the social media addiction MDL-3047.

What is the deadline to file?

Many states pause filing deadlines while the injured person is a minor, and many have extended deadlines for childhood sexual abuse claims. The rules vary widely by state, so timing should be reviewed early.
